There are now nine weeks to go until Carnival Culture Unbound – a powerful, first-of-its-kind international celebration of Carnival arts, African heritage, and global Diaspora culture! We are working hard to put the finishing touches on our week-long celebration which will take place 23-29th June at McGill University in Montreal, Canada in partnership with Global Carnivalz.
“After a successful planning trip to Trinidad where we secured a number of incredible speakers such as Gypsy, Dr Liverpool and Ainsley King, we are feeling confident and excited about Carnival Culture Unbound! Myself, our president Henry and the whole team have high hopes for what will come from the event. Never before has there been a moment like this where we bring together the African and Diaspora communities to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures we take pride in.” Said Pax Nindi, World Carnival Commission CEO
Bringing together African Kings, Queens and traditional leaders, alongside international Carnival creatives, scholars, performers, and policymakers, the event promises a unique mix of panel discussions, cultural showcases, exhibitions, and performances. Countries already confirmed include Uganda, UK, USA, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Jamaica, Mauritania, Trinidad & Tobago and The Bahamas.
The event will open with networking and connecting with delegates from all over the world. This will be followed by the conference part of the schedule, which will be split into themes over four days:
Wednesday 25th June – Conference Day 1: Caribbean Perspective
Thursday 26th June – Conference Day 2: Global Perspective
Friday 27th June – Conference Day 3: Cultural Perspective
Saturday 28th June – Conference Day 4: African Perspective
Closing the proceedings on Sunday 29th June, the final day will be a celebration of the connections and cultural exchange forged during the week. It promises an opportunity for visiting groups to share their performance skills from dancing to drumming to singing as well as enjoying exhibitions and stalls spanning crafts, clothes designers and cultural artifacts.
We will be announcing an exciting line up of key note speakers and panelists in the coming weeks.
